Air Integrity HVAC BBB Business Review

What AC Products Help with Allergies?

This Spring season is filled with pollen in the air, leading to watery eyes and sniffles. Those with allergies or respiratory difficulties, such as asthma, should know that their home’s HVAC system not only cools and warms their space, but it can also aid in their breathing as well.

Air Filters with a High MERV Rating

The first line of defense is making sure the air filter in your home or living space has a high MERV rating. MERV stands for Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value. The higher the MERV rating, the more intense filtration becomes, being able to trap bacteria, smoke, and smaller particles that may float within the air. High-efficiency filters with a MERV rating of 13-16 are best for consumers with allergies. Not only should you expect the air indoors to be cleaner and fresher, but you should also see improvements in your respiratory system.

Change Air Filters Regularly

Make note that just like any other filter, high-efficiency filters must also be replaced regularly. Air filters should be replaced every one to three months for them to operate at their best. Learn more about air filter replacement in our blog post “What Happens When You Do Not Change Your Air Filter?

Install an Air Purifier

Next, there are many air purifiers available that actively eliminate toxins within the air. For example, the Air Scrubber is a device that covers three thousand square feet. This device treats the air for germs as hydrogen peroxide is released into the atmosphere. Unlike air filters, the Air Scrubber does not need to be replaced or cleaned. Two versions of this purifier exist, one installed within your system or one which is portable and separate from your system. Expect rapid results with this purifier and improvements with your allergies.
