Summer 2026 is soon to arrive, and it can be extreme, depending on the climate. This proves especially true for Texans, as history shows that one of the hottest temperatures was 119 degrees Fahrenheit in 2023. Maintaining cool temperatures is vital, as your home’s temperature can impact your health, safety, and comfort. Failure to regulate appropriate temperatures indoors during extreme heat may create risks of illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion. Appropriate temperatures are also crucial for more vulnerable populations, such as the elderly or infants, as poor air circulation leaves them with higher risks of respiratory complications. Not to mention that extreme heat disrupts sleep quality.
With all the potential risks from extreme heat or heat waves this summer, we should know the best temperatures for our homes and businesses according to the weather. The recommended indoor temperature is 78 degrees Fahrenheit during heatwaves. However, if that seems too warm, we advise lowering your thermostat to 72-74 degrees Fahrenheit. Ultimately, the homeowner or business owner should adjust their thermostats to their own preferences but do note that 78 degrees is most cost-efficient during heatwaves. Lowering temperatures through extreme heat waves will create a slight increase in utility bills.
Additionally, knowing the typical hot weather pattern of summer, further preparation is also necessary to make sure your air conditioner can survive the season. Here at Air Integrity HVAC, we suggest spring tune-ups since it is a calmer season just before summer, and these tune-ups will help make sure that your system correctly runs all summer long. During a preventative maintenance tune-up an HVAC professional will complete an overview of your unit’s condition externally and internally to make sure you are able to set your thermostat to the appropriate temperature in your home or business.
If you are interested in preventative maintenance, we would be happy to serve you! We offer both commercial and residential service plans as well, so you will not have to worry about the extreme Texas heat that is coming soon!
