What Happens When You Do Not Change Your Air Filter?

Strains Your System’s Air Flow

Arguably, an air conditioner’s most well-known part is the air filter. Often, professionals replace them, as well as those who do not know much about AC units at all. Your entire HVAC system malfunctions without this simple rectangular device, which is designed to collect the dust and debris that can cause damage. Failure to swap out a dirty air filter may result in overworking your air conditioner. Whenever the filters become clogged, it restricts airflow. This will lead to an increase in static pressure on the blower fan, forcing it to work harder than normal. It is important to provide your system with clean air filters, so the system does not strain itself but instead operates with ease.

Leaves Your HVAC Unit Unprotected

Not only does a clogged air filter restrict airflow; furthermore, it can no longer protect the system or prevent the inside air from congestion. Dirty filters affect the air quality of a space, leaving the air stuffy and heavy. If the air filter no longer has room in its pores to collect contaminants in the air, that means it is time to replace the old filter with a brand new one. Or else, those free particles will saturate the indoor air, decreasing the health of your air quality.

Poor Indoor Air Quality Causes Health Issues

And like a domino effect, poor indoor air quality affects the health of the individuals within that space. Due to the old filter’s inability to trap new debris or contaminants, they remain free. That means that people will breathe in that bacteria which can lead to respiratory issues. That stuffiness or saturated bacteria may also cause dizziness, eye irritation, and headaches.

Replace Air Filters Frequently

We encourage all HVAC system owners and users to conduct regular air filter changes, either once a month or once every three months, depending on your filter type. Local home improvement and HVAC stores should have filters readily available to you. At Air Integrity HVAC, we have both 1-inch and 5-inch width filters available. And all our 1-inch filters are only thirteen dollars total. So, if you are familiar with changing an air filter yourself, stop by our shop and get the size you need. But if you would prefer to have a professional do it for you, please just give a call and hear about our service agreements – guaranteed to see us biannually, with priority scheduling and regular maintenance on your unit.
