The “Recovery Mode” On Your Thermostat

Do Not Be Alarmed

The next time you see the words “Recovery Mode” on your thermostat, do not be alarmed – it does not mean your AC system broke. It is simply a smart feature that indicates either your modern programmable or smart thermostat is doing its job. Whenever this appears, it means your thermostat is working to reach your desired temperature by the time you have it scheduled for by “recovering” from energy-saving mode. For example, if you have scheduled the temperature in your home to reach 75 degrees Fahrenheit by 12pm tomorrow while keeping it at 72 degrees Fahrenheit now, through the night your system will prepare to be at 75 degrees at exactly 12pm the next day.

Smart Thermostat Features

This feature benefits consumers because the recovery mode expands your thermostat’s ability to cool down or warm up your house at the times you want. Instead of waiting for your thermostat to reach the temperature you desire, you can schedule that temperature beforehand to avoid the wait. Furthermore, the feature makes your system more energy efficient. With scheduled timing, your thermostat is gentler with your AC system by allowing time for it to gradually adjust rather than having it work at full blast. And with smart technology, you can track your home’s heating and cooling temperatures over time. So, there is a high chance that your system will automatically adjust to your home’s preferred comfort levels over time.

Other Possibilities

Primarily, we do not want you to worry if the “recovery mode” is displayed on your thermostat’s screen. However, there may be certain situations that can help you detect a malfunction in your system. The recovery mode is the signal that your system is working to meet your preferred temperature, but if your system is still in recovery mode well after the time you have a temperature change scheduled, it may be a sign that your system is not functioning at its best. This could mean your filter needs to be changed, you have poor insulation, or many other malfunctions that could be discovered from a simple service diagnostic performed.

Not Sure? Call Us!

Overall, this feature should not alarm you. However, if there are signs that your system needs to be serviced, do not be afraid to give us a call! Our qualified technicians will come out and help you right away!
